Chris is a farmer from the south coast of Western Australia operating a 4400 ha grain production enterprise.
After completing tertiary studies in agriculture at Muresk Institute of Agriculture he returned to the family farm later branching off to run his own operation from 1993 until the present.
The farm operation utilises controlled traffic, precision Ag, direct drilling amongst other best management practices.
While farming he has been actively involved with industry good organisations at a local regional and state level. These roles have included being a farmer representative on the DAFWA Bridging the Yield Gap Board, Chairmanship of the GIWA wheat committee and President of South East Premium Wheat Growers (SEPWA), an organisation covering the Esperance port Zone. SEPWA has a long history of varietal testing at a farm scale with a strong emphasis on quality and of building linkages with end-users. This has seen SEPWA undertake several trips overseas to visit our customers and provide samples of newer varieties being tested in the trials program to overseas millers.
During the last 18 months Chris has undertaken a Nuffield Scholarship looking at improved extension techniques to bring about practice change, with the intention of getting better value for our Research and Development dollar.
